"Science is seriously satisfying!."
— Sniffles's starring intro, Season 3 of Happy Tree Friends

Sniffles is a highly intelligent anteater who loves preforming math equations. He has an extraordinary ability to create highly functional machines, but they tend to almost always backfires, killing both him and other characters. He often gets himself in wars with The Ants and it results with the latter brutally maiming the former.

Concept and creation

Sniffles wasn't always an anteater. Initially, a nerdy character with huge glasses was a squirrel, but later in development, the creators decided to change the species to an anteater. [1] Sniffles was originally planned to have his snout placed under his snout but the creators decided to change it to being on the tip of it. [2]

Biography

General information

Personality

Snifles' personality can be described as a nerdy, geeky anteater who loves doing math and is remarkably smart. Sniffles is a genius who can create giant machines. However, these machinery often backfire and results in the deaths of himself or other. In addition, he is sometimes shown to be a bit of a mad scientist at times, such as the instance where he is mixing fluids that end up causing his death in the Sniffles Science Smoochie. He usually says "Ah Ha!" when he gets an idea for an invention. He's also shown being given the more successful and experience required jobs such as being a pilot or a doctor. However, despite his high I.Q, he often looks at deaths with a vacant expression, and appears to quickly over come them.

Despite the fact that Sniffles is one of if not the smartest Happy Tree Friends characters due to his nerdy character design and inventing abilities, his intelligent has been relegated to being close to even Lumpy due to his lack of common sense and poor planning skills. One example of this is I've Got You Under My Skin, in which Sniffles puts a timer on his shrinking submarine that determines how long he can stay microscopic despite how the device was designed to go inside Giggles' and as the timer winds down, he doesn't even heed the attempt to turn it back and give himself more time. Another infamous example is in Party Animal, in where, while he is seen fleeing the area after Toothy is killed, it is unknown what he was doing during Cuddles, Nutty, and Mime's deaths, as he was seen later standing idle as if he was staring at the chaos the whole time. In the meanwhile of the evil side of Flippy's carnage, he had plenty of time to leave the house. He later uses a barrel filled with water as a hiding spot, almost causing him to drown, instead of simply running out of the house, and gave away his hiding spot when his snout is seen poking from the top, which the evil side of Flippy kills him afterwards.

Sniffles also has a very apparent craving for ants, which is obviously one of his animal instincts. However, whenever he tries to eat one, they would proceed to kill him after maiming him sadistically. The only successful attempt was in in the episode Blast from the Past, in which Sniffles eats a prehistoric ant without being killed. In general, Sniffles' deaths can be considered slower and more painful than most of the other characters. Tongue in Cheek in particular is very antagonizing and painful, with Snifffles being mind-controlled and forced to bring harm and eventually suicide to himself, whimpering in pain as he dos so. On some occasions, however, occasionally, which is very noticeable in newer episodes, he dies quick deaths, a trait similar to Mime, who's deaths are particular quick to even painless.

Sniffles appears to be a fan of Star Trek, as in both Something Fishy and Remains to be Seen. He also appears to be very fond of Splendid, being a very obviously geeky follower of his heroic duties, as seen in Wrath of Con and owns numerous merchandising of him such as owning comics books in Suck It Up. Also, his Myspace page also notes that his idols are Albert Einstein, Spock, William Shatner, and Splendid[citation needed].

Physical information

Sniffles is a blue anteater with a long snout and pointy ears. He has one of the more unique and differentiated designs out of the characters, as he lacks the buck-teeth and heart-shaped noses all of the other characters have. His snout has gotten shorter over the duration of the series, as it was initially shown to stop at his waist but was shorten to being nearly smaller than his entire head. The exact location of Sniffles' jaw is inconsistent. In certain episodes, such as Spare Me, his set of teeth appears to be placed within his head, as if he had two pairs of jaws. However, other examples, such as Tongue In Cheek, would depict it as his skull extending into his snout.

Sniffles also has a pair of glasses with tap keeping them together. Behind them, he appears to have normal pac-man eyes but in Tongue Twister Trouble, he is shown with beady eyes for a split second. He also wears a pocket protector. The pocket itself is shown to wield a red, purple, and blue pen.
