"For a lazy lunch, try left-over loaf!."
— Lumpy's starring intro, Season 3 of Happy Tree Friends

Lumpy is a dimwitted blue moose from Happy Tree Friends and is one of the four main protagonists of the franchise. Lumpy is very incompetent and clumsy, which has granted him the record of most amount of deaths and kills. However, despite this, he means well. Lumpy first appeared in Spin Fun Knowin Ya. However, a blue dinosaur that is a prototype of him appeared in a released beta-short named Banjo Frenzy.

Concept and creation

When the concept of the unreleased short Banjo Frenzy was in development, a bear character was sketched, where the drawing depicts him roasting marshmallows over a campfire. [citation needed] However, when the short was produced, the bear was changed into a blue dinosaur who plays a banjo. After the creation of the short, the creators decided to change the species of the character once more, where in Spin Fun Knowin Ya, the dinosaur was changed to a moose with mismatched antlers.

Biography

General information

Personality

Lumpy is a bumbling moose who's been frequently portrayed as dimwitted. He's very clumsy and extremely unintelligent. However, he means well most of the time and is known to take care of many things, such as the younger characters, or other things under his care such as his pet elephant. His catchphrase is "Mmmm-hmmm".

However, despite his kind nature, he has been in under the portrayal as an antagonistic character within a story. In Dunce Upon a Time, he is portrayed as a giant. In the episode, he kills several of his hostages after they fled from their respective cages. In Happy Trails Pt. 2: Jumping the Shark, he participated in murdering Flaky or at least supported it in some sort of way. An infamous example Lumpy's antagonistic side is We're Scrooged!, where he portrayed as a greedy business owner. In this episode, he steal coins from The Mole's charity bucket and intentionally kills Toothy to make product from his body parts. In Every Litter Bit Hurts, he is seen repeatedly doing harmful acts towards the environment. In Mime To Five, he's portrayed as a selfish and greedy owner of the circus, where his treatment of Mime is partisan, and his treatment of his Killer Ducks is downright cruel. In The Carpal Tunnel of Love, he interfere with Cuddles' plan to get his affection towards Giggles, and acts as very reckless towards various of the other characters, such as stealing Handy's truck.

Despite the instances of showcasing his extremely low level of intelligence due to his acts of impaired behavior, and lack of common sense, their are have been instances where Lumpy has been portrayed to be very smart, due to his exceptional and unique planning skills, and burst of occasional common knowledge seen in multiple episodes. For example, in Doggone It, Lumpy was the only character to even considered the fact that the temperament of Whistle was because of a whistling sound.

Physical information

Lumpy is a tall blue moose with mismatched antlers. His eyes are almost always crossed when he's idle and his teeth are showing when wearing his standard expression. He's notably slimmer and taller than the rest of tree friends. Lumpy has a unique design compared to most characters. He lacks a heart-shaped nose and has two visible nostrils in the place of the nose. He also lacks mitten-hands, where he has four fingered hands. He also has circular pupils opposed to the more Pac-Man shaped ones.

Despite Lumpy appearing to not be shown not completely clothed, he is fully clothed in several episodes. He has wore jackets, aprons, pants, shirts, and overalls. However, Lumpy actually wears an invisible T-shirt that blends in with his skin. When he takes it off, he can be seen with a tan line, nipples, buttocks, and unseen genitals.

Speech

Lumpy speaks with a very low-pitched voice. He has spoken clear English the most times out of all the characters. He sometimes cusses "What the fuck?" or "What the hell?" whenever he sees something strange or disturbing. He was able to tell Sniffles about Toothy breaking his arm in Blast from the Past in clear English

Trivia

  • His MySpace account mentions that his favorite foods are cheese and sandwiches, that his favorite dessert is cheesecake, and that he likes to talk to lettuce. [citation needed]
