Lumpy was derived from a bear character in a sketch during the creation of the pilot, Banjo Frenzy. This sketch depicted the bear roasting marshmallows over a campfire while three other woodland characters were sitting on a log. At some point, this bear character was replaced by a dinosaur-like creature that plays a banjo; this character was eventually used in Banjo Frenzy, where he also had a personality similar to Fliqpy.
